VSB14 - 4X4 Vehicle Modifications |
|
Vicroads and other Government road agencies around the country have been working to have a common set of rules for vehicle modifications. These rules in their present draft will mean that all 4WD vehicles with a greater than 2 inch lift will require a engineering certificate. Lift includes body, suspension and tyres. Four Wheel Drive Victoria do not support the present position and seek your feedback. Many four wheel drivers have vehicle mods and these changes to the rules which have no basis in fact or science will limit the capacity to improve the ride of their vehicle without incurring considerable cost.
Four Wheel Drive Victoria has met with Vicroads and are presently preparing their submission on the issue. The NSW & ACT FWD Association have also been active after the NSW Minister for Roads said that all people who drove a modified vehicle were hoons. Fortunately there was such an outcry that he has withdrawn the comment and agreed to deal with industry.
The Australian Aftermarket Accessory Association AAAA together with VACC and FWDV have a working group. Scientific tests have been carried out which have shown that correctly modified vehicles have better ride characteristics than standard vehicles. Something most of us already know.
Four Wheel Drive Victoria are doing a survey of members and seek your support. Please log onto the survey site and complete the survey. We urge you to support FWDV in this request for information. |

PressurePro Tyre Pressure Monitor |
|
YOUR4X4 tests the latest on road tyre pressure monitor.
Ever wondered what condition your tyres were in whilst driving? Well the technology has been around for some time now but a new system just into Australia has really caught our eye. The PressurePro system allows you to fully install all four tyre sensors without actually removing the tyre from the rim like most other tyre monitoring kits. “Heck, we didn’t even have to loosen the wheel nuts” said Simon from YOUR4X4. The sensors simply and ingeniously replace your valve caps on each wheel.
The slimline incab unit is easy to install and runs conveniently on 12V automotive power. It’s a simple plug and play unit, is easy to operate and does exactly what it says it will. For more information visit www.rvsystems.com.au or check out the units personally at the National 4x4 Show in Melbourne first weekend of September. |

The Melbourne National 4x4 Show locks in demonstration short course competition.
The first weekend of September will not only welcome the all new national 4x4 show in Melbourne to a new venue and with an all new outdoors Action Arena but also a Victorian first with a demonstration short course competition running over the weekend at the same venue. Well known to the Queensland scene, short course 4x4 competitions involve a timed and gated, all terrain style course with obstacles set to challenge drivers and vehicles. Set to spice up the excitement of the already jam packed Action Arena, the planned short course competition will offer continuous displays of what modified 4wds are capable of.
To top this off, Simon Christie from YOUR4X4 has also been asked to run his amazing 40 series Landcruiser across the demonstration course. Fingers crossed that Simon’s 40 returns from the OnTrack 4wd Centre in Qld in time. Simon has also been working tirelessly behind the scenes to assist with the organising of the Action Arena track building (to be conducted by Tony Whateley from Loveday 4x4 Adventures in SA; also infamous for the amazing Riverland 4x4 Challenge held every October) and numerous demonstrations including the Australian 4wd Mud Racing Association, rockcrawlers and tuff trucks. |

The YOUR4X4 team head OS to check out the Malaysian jungle and local 4x4 scene.
Early November will see both Danny and Simon, hosts of YOUR4X4, heading to Malaysia to sample the local 4wd scene. Home to the world class Malaysian Rainforest Challenge, Malaysia is well known to host a diverse 4x4 scene and Danny and Simon are keen to see what vehicles and recreational 4wdriving opportunities are available.
A possible inclusion and high on their wish list is a visit to the ARB Thailand Plant just a few hundred kilometres from KL. Servicing much of Asia, this OS plant backs up manufacturing at ARBs head office in Kilsyth, Victoria, Australia and is just one part of ARBs world wide web of manufacturing and distribution. |

Kaymar Prado Wheel Bracket |
|
Prado 120 Wheel on Door Bracket & Spacer
This new accessory from Kaymar enables greater choice of tyre width for spare wheel mounted on the rear door. Adding an extra clearance of 25mm at the hub, wide tyres are kept well clear of the vehicle’s paint work. Manufactured from solid steel plate and finished with a bright, rust preventative electroplated coating it is an investment to last the life of the vehicle. Also included with the bracket is an integral mounting for the Kaymar Telescopic Work Light.
An optional HF/UHF aerial mount is available for attachment to the bracket. Mounting the bracket is quite straight forward as it simply locates on the door in place of the factory fitted spare wheel carrier which in turn fits to the bracket.
Further information on these ingenious products are available at www.kaymar.com.au |
