Friends in 4wdriving ... the time has come again for us to unite with all facets of the 4wd community, 4wd industry, media and such. As a unified body we must voice our resistance to VSI50, which again has been put forward by the NSW government. All of us need to email the NSW roads minister, Duncan Gay ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and the Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to voice our concerns over these laws aimed at limiting how we can safely set up our 4wds.

The proposed law will limit height increases of 4wds to just 75mm. That is a 2 inch lift along with a 1 inch body lift or 1 inch increase in tyre radius for example. This is not satisfactory and there is no proof to justify that vehicles outside of these limitations are unsafe. In fact it has been proved a number of times that vehicles outside of the 75mm limit fitted with quality Australian designed suspension systems are far safer than many of the 4wds running standard suspension, tyres, etc.

The government needs to accept that the vast majority of 4wds are responsible road users with safe and capable vehicles and that we will not stand for these over the top limitations.

Let them know that you are a responsible and safe road user and that their proposed limitations are far too restrictive. We all must stand together and act quickly on this.

Well the wait is finally over, Series 5 of the popular YOUR4X4 will kick off August 8 on Foxtel 183 and we have some great trips like usual but also some very special feature episodes.

This series will see the start of our ‘Tips and Techniques’ style episodes with our resident experts sharing their knowledge on topics like sand, rock, hill, water and mud driving. We will also have features on how to set your vehicles up from the basics through to specific location or terrain requirements.

We get to take a quick look at the new VW Amorak as well as the FJ Cruiser, and have all of the family based fun and 4x4 activities from both the Australian 4x4 Muster and the Eldee Easter Family Event. There’s also plenty of trips from all over Australia and a New Zealand 4x4 Wedding with a difference.

In a huge win for 4wdrivers the current Minister for Transport recently released a statement that secured the future of bull bars in Australia.

Following concerns over the possible introduction of European standards that highlight the protection of pedestrians (and as such ban bullbars) a number of industry leaders, backed by considerable community and public pressure, successfully lobbied to have the proposal overturned.

In short the Minister (surprisingly) made the statement that the threat to pedestrians was far outweighed by the safety that bull bars offer to 4wdrivers. A great victory for us all.

By popular demand Danny, Simon and the YOUR4X4 team are coming back for their third Series. Booked to start 8pm Monday August 23, the all new Series 3 will see another ten weeks of reality based 4wdriving from all corners of Australia and again a taste of some of the action overseas.

Just to wet your appetite, some of the trips we have include a club day out in Cairns, a father and son trip with a difference through outback Australia, an eye opening 4x4 friendly trip to Eldee Station exploring the Barrier Ranges and Mundi Mundi Plains, a grey nomad trek through the Kimberley, a day trip to the stunning Saunders Gorge just out of Adelaide, a camping and 4x4 weekend around Pemberton in WA and a day trip with local 4wheelers in Hawaii.
